Writing in Foundation Stage 2
Writing in the Early Years
Writing is a vital part of children’s early development, helping them to communicate their ideas, thoughts and creativity. At Arbourthorne, we follow the Little Wandle programme to develop strong foundations in phonics, reading and writing. The Little Wandle Handwriting scheme is used to teach correct letter formation. We also use Drawing Club to inspire imagination, develop vocabulary and encourage children to become enthusiastic, confident writers. Alongside this, we promote the correct pencil grip using our “Pinch, Pinch, Pinch, Flip” approach to support children in developing a secure tripod grip, building the fine motor skills needed for fluent, comfortable handwriting. Through engaging experiences in the provision and consistent practice, we help every child develop the confidence and skills to become successful writers.
